Flames Fall at Butler, 69-44

22nd February 2012

Junior guard Gary Talton and senior center Darrin Williams both scored in double figures, but Butler raced out to an early lead, and withstood the Flames’ rally with a 10-0 run mid-way through the second half, leading to a 69-44 win over the UIC men’s basketball team at Hinkle Fieldhouse Tuesday night.

UIC’s alliance with the Wounded Warrior Project continues Thursday when three warriors are welcomed to the UIC Pavilion for “Military Night” for the men’s basketball game against Milwaukee, a university that also has an alliance with the WWP, at 7:00 p.m. (CT) in Chicago, Ill. In honor of the event, UIC staff will be wearing “Military Night” t-shirts, and in addition to UIC students receiving free admission with a valid student ID per usual, all students with a military and student ID will also receive free admission. Anyone with a military ID is eligible for five-dollar tickets for him or herself, and guests. During the game, select military members will be selected for on-court activities, while three wounded warriors will be in attendance, and will be honored during a timeout.

The UIC men’s basketball team will wrap up its regular season Horizon League road slate Tuesday, when the Flames travel to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis beginning at 6 p.m. CST.

Junior guard Daniel Barnes wasn’t going to let the Flames leave Lantz Arena without their first road win of the season Saturday. The Oak Park native drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key with 4.7 seconds remaining to give the UIC men’s basketball a valuable two-possession lead, and the Flames defeated Eastern Illinois, 67-63 in a SEARS BracketBusters contest.
