UIC head men’s soccer coach Sean Phillips announced the addition of former Major League Soccer (MLS) goalkeeper Alec Dufty to the Flames’ coaching staff Wednesday. Dufty will serve as the program’s Volunteer Assistant Coach.

The UIC men’s soccer team put the finishing touches on its spring training and competition schedule last Saturday, finishing third at the annual Chicago Cup in Evanston. The Flames dropped a 1-0 decision versus Loyola, and tied DePaul, 0-0.

The third-annual Chicago Cup, featuring the men’s soccer programs from UIC, DePaul, Loyola and Northwestern, will be held at Lakeside Field in Evanston on Saturday. The Flames will cap off their spring season by facing the Ramblers and 4:45 p.m., and either Northwestern or DePaul in the ensuing consolation and championship matches.

The UIC men’s soccer team battled Marquette to a 1-1 draw through the opening 90 minutes at Toyota Park’s Practice Field last Saturday, but eventually fell short in a penalty kick tiebreaker, 5-4.

The UIC men’s soccer team opened its spring campaign this past week, splitting a pair of contests against host Northern Illinois on March 31 at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex, and at Lewis University on April 5. The Flames dropped a 3-0 decision versus NIU, a 2011 NCAA Tournament participant, and defeated the Flyers, 3-1.
